3 - Vitrine des Ardennes / ADT08
The exhibition shows the objects used in the shows of the Compagnie Gare Centrale and the work of sculptors (Alain Baczynsky, Antoine Blanquart, Daniel Daniel, Myriam Hornard, Mélanie Rutten) who collaborate with Agnès Limbos, the founder of the company in 1984. It highlights the objects which generate the creation of a show. Between 1984 and 2017, more than 15 shows, both short and long have been created and performed in over 20 countries around the world. Each time the object is the source of inspiration: a military boot, a tin of peas, a caravel, a wedding dress, astroturf, a stuffed crow… The themes of trains and journeys, departures and returns, separation and reunion are also addressed.

Pinocchio(s)

Alice Laloy
Cie s'appelle reviens / France
Free entrance

9 - L'Igloo

Meeting with Alice Laloy on Sept. 17th à 5pm.

25 - Mur du Métropolis

Exhibition from July 7th to Sept. 24th.

Alice Laloy brings together the figure of Pinocchio and the contemporary form of realistic puppets. She is particularly interested in the metamorphosis of the puppet and the instant when it occurs. Through the prism of photography, “Pinoccio(s)” searches the borderline between the animate and the inanimate, the inert and the living. Alongside this, with “Gepetto(s)” she suggests that puppeteers go back into their past and look for clues which later will be revealed in their choice of puppetry. This exhibition came out of 6 series of films, one of which took place in the workshops in Charleville-Mézières, with the participation of children from the leisure centre “Le Château des fees”.
The first official exhibition is scheduled for the World Puppet Festival in Charleville-Mézières between July and September 2017 on the wall outside the Métropolis cinema. Alice Laloy won a “Hors les murs” (extra-mural) grant from the Institut Français, and then went on to work in Mongolia in circus schools.

The poster from the exhibition is on sale in the Festival shop.

Mehryl Levisse

France
Free entrance

9 - L'Igloo

Meeting with Mehryl Levisse on  sept. 19th at 5pm.

4 - Vitrine Jeanteur
17 - Vitrine de L'Arquebuse

Exhibition from 16th to 24th sept.

Photographs, installations, sculptures and performances are all means for Mehryl Levisse to consider the codes of representation of the body, domestic worlds, and decorative arts.
Mehryl Levisse is the artist who was commissioned to produce the graphics for the 2017 edition of the Festival. The world of puppet theatres is part of his research into identity and the body in a new form which can be seen in his work. In the duality of puppeteer’s body/puppet’s body, it brings to light this strange ambiguity: who is manipulating whom?
The appearance of this new artistic form in his research approaches his work on the object, in particular concerning pathologies and voodoo. For the Festival, Mehryl has set up exhibitions in shop windows,  here you can see wallpaper and patterned carpets, with puppets and masks created especially for this installation. Visible from the street, these exhibitions present a domestic atmosphere  hich is both troubling and colourful. Is it an anthropological showcase or the home of a collector?

Le Navire des fous

Joan Baixas / Spain
Free entrance

9 - L'Igloo

Meeting with Joan Baixas on Sept. 18th at 5pm.

13 - Médiathèque Voyelles

Exhibition from 16th to 24th Sept.

Joan Baixas exhibits objects; figures, projections and paintings with this installation in three series:
“Mangoneos” (interventions, orders) consists of 15 poems-objects of different sizes and different materials. Character, strings and manipulator form the poetic equation of the puppet. These three elements which give life to a classical puppet, as well as being a magnificent resource for stage and poetry, are also regularly used as metaphors for power, control, ependence: “Who is pulling the strings?” “It’s a puppet in the hands of…”
The series “Mythical spaces” has three venues: Le Navire des fous features cunning, clever characters who inhabit books, stories and fables. Maniobra-Marisombra presents a puppet on the end of a fishing rod and La Dernière Cène, se manger l’âme considers food and eating rituals.
“Banderas” refers to flags, rags, canvases, sails, towels and cloths which have figured in the work of Joan Baixas for many years.
